Backgammon Clubs
There are backgammon clubs all over the world
because this game is so very popular. They meet regularly, weekly or
monthly and allow people the chance to sit down and spend the
evening playing their favorite game with other backgammon
enthusiasts. Many of the clubs will provide you with the backgammon
boards while others will ask that you bring your own. An individual
who is very much like you usually runs them, a backgammon enthusiast
looking to spend a fun evening playing their favorite game.
Depending on the individual running the game the club will host you
at a variety of sites. Sometimes it is the home or workplace of the
club administrator. Perhaps they have a large finished basement
where people can play. If this is the case then there will likely be
no fees for playing. Sometimes it is at a community centre. These
places will often lend space for no cost but other times they will
charge something small. If this is the case there may be a small
joining fee to play. The backgammon clubs will also hold yearly
tournaments. If they do they will charge an entry fee so that they
are able to afford prizes for their members.
Most backgammon clubs will allow players to join no matter what
their skill level is. This gives beginners the opportunity to play
with those who are of a higher skillet and so to learn from better
players. Some clubs only want members who have been playing for a
long time. It depends completely on the club administrator how
things are done. Some clubs will allow you to bring a guest to play,
others demand that only members attend.
Some backgammon clubs will allow the players to play for money.
Betting some small amount on each game or using the doubling cubes
to influence how much a game is worth. Many others will not, feeling
that betting on the games takes away from the fun of an evening. If
you decide to join a local club, find out their rules first to make
sure it's the kind of place you want to go. Going to backgammon
clubs will give you the chance to play and meet others like you who
enjoy the game and maybe even sharpen our skills.
